It is a question that has been argued for over a 1000 years

Through careful, highly scientific methods, a band of highly skilled beer drinkers are out to answer this very important question

It was June 2015, school just got out for summer for a couple of teachers and while sitting around the pool drinking cheap beer, the question was asked, "Is Milwaukee's Best or Busch Light really crap beer compared to Bud Light or Coors Light?".  Many beers have a built-in personal bias and we wanted to REALLY see if those biases were true - so we decided to do a blind taste test.
What surprises you most? Milwaukees Best beats Coors Light
Natty Light beat GB Premium
Bud Light sweeps PBR
Michelob Golden Wins it all
We got a mix of "crap" beers and put them against the "mainstream" beers in a blind taste test, with the exception of the person pouring, no one knew which match-up they were tasting.  We decided to take votes on the best beer - the most votes wins and moves on.  The results shocked us almost immediately.  Milwaukee's Best beats Coors Light in the first round!!!  Holy Cow!  Did that really happen?  With personal bias taken out, we had a solid base for what beer is REALLY better.  Maybe you remember the 80's and the cola wars (Coke vs Pepsi), well, we're doing the same thing, but with all kinds of beer.
After that first tournament, we needed to do it again - Summertime Beers.  This time, we'd have people fill out a bracket to predict the outcome - making a personal winner.  Again, more surprises happened and we had to do another tournament, and another, and another.  Then we made a website and after 8 tournaments, we felt we needed to put all the winners against each other in a Super Bowl of sorts to make a GRAND beer champion.  We now call that the Great 8 Championship.  After the first Great 8, we kept having more tournaments, doing about 4 tournaments a year and each one having a specific theme - Ireland vs USA, Regular vs Light, Oktoberfest, etc.  Our website, 8beers.com, reflects the Great 8 tournament.
Each tournament seems to get bigger, better and more fun.  In May of 2019, the ToB (Tournament of Beers) is taking it public at Invictus Brewing in Blaine with a bigger future in the days ahead.  With more people and more votes, our scientific process of blind taste tests will hopefully bring us one step closer to really answering that age old question "What is the Best Beer"?

Come back often to see when and where the next tournament is and how the next Great 8 bracket fills out.  Visit us on Facebook as well - Tournement of Beers 8beers.com
